Brooks was born in a military family, with French and Native American ancestry, specifically Potawatomi and Cheroqui.
When Mischa Brooks was 12 years old, she moved to Texas with her family, where she spent a few teenage years. After some time they moved to Japan, where Mischa graduated from high school.
Later, she returned to the United States, where after graduation Brooks worked in a laundry.
