Droupadi Murmu was born on June 20, 1958 in Rairangpur, Odisha.

She belongs to a Santali family.

Her real (childhood) name is Puti Tudu.

Her school teacher gave her the name Droupadi.

Her parents were traditional heads of the village council.

Droupadi is an arts graduate from Rama Devi Women's College.

She married in 1980 to a banker named Shyam Charan Murmu.

She had one daughter and two sons.

Unfortunately, Droupadi's husband, mother, a brother and two sons died.

Murmu follows the Brahma Kumaris spiritual movement.

She began her career in politics in 1997, when she joined the Bhartiya Janata Party.

Recently, she has been elected as the 15th President of India.

She is the first president of India to be born after Independence.
