WHAT IS MELOXICAM?

Meloxicam is a prescribed medication used to treat arthritis. It helps reduce swelling, pain and stiffness of the joints. Meloxicam belongs to a group of drugs, called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

This product is available in the following dosage forms:

• Tablet
• Capsule
• Suspension
• Tablet, Disintegrating

MELOXICAM SIDE EFFECTS:

Meloxicam medication may cause some side-effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

• Diarrhea
• Constipation
• Gas
• Sore throat
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Vomiting

Some Meloxicam side-effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

• Hives
• Itching
• Blisters
• Flu-like symptoms
• Rash
• Fever
• Skin blisters or peeling
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing
• Hoarseness
• Pale skin
• Swelling of the face, eyes, tongue, lips, or throat
• Fast heartbeat
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Unexplained weight gain
• Nausea
• Excessive tiredness
• Lack of energy
• Yellowing of the skin or eyes
• Pain in the right upper part of the stomach
• Cloudy, discolored, or bloody urine
• Back pain
• Difficult or painful urination
• Swelling in the abdomen, ankles, feet, or legs

MELOXICAM OVERDOSE SYMPTOMS:

Meloxicam overdose symptoms may include:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Seizures
• Lack of energy
• Drowsiness
• Bloody, black, or tarry stools
• Stomach pain
• Difficulty breathing
• Vomit that is bloody or looks like coffee grounds
• Coma

MELOXICAM INTERACTIONS:

Tell your doctor or health care provider if you are using an antidepressant such as Citalopram, Fluoxetine (Prozac), Escitalopram, Fluvoxamine, Sertraline (Zoloft), Trazodone, Paroxetine or Vilazodone. Taking any of these medicines with Meloxicam may cause you to bruise or bleed more easily.

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are currently taking or planning to stop using, especially:

• Cyclosporine
• Lithium
• Methotrexate
• Sodium polystyrene sulfonate (Kayexalate)
• Blood thinners such as Warfarin, Jantoven, Coumadin
• Medicines for heart diseases
• Blood pressure medication (including a diuretic and ACE inhibitors)
• Steroid medicine (such as prednisone)
• Alcohol and Tobacco

PRECAUTIONS:

Before taking Meloxicam Medication, tell your doctor or health care provider if you are allergic to it or if you have a history of any other allergies.

Before using this drug, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially of:

• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Stroke
• Stomach problems
• Asthma
• High blood pressure (hypertension)
• Heart disease such as history of heart attacks
• Blood disorders such as anemia, bleeding, clotting problems
• Growth in the nose

Tell your doctor or health care provider if you are allergic to Meloxicam, Aspirin, Sorbitol or other NSAIDs such as Naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin).

Meloxicam is not safe for pregnant women. It can harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. Here; it is important to know that Meloxicam medication is not recommended for use during pregnancy from 20 weeks until delivery.

Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine. It may pass into breast-milk and can cause undesirable side-effects. Tell your doctor if you’re breast-feeding.

MELOXICAM AND ALCOHOL:

Do not consume alcohol while taking Meloxicam medication. Alcohol can work increase the risk of stomach bleeding caused by Meloxicam. Call your doctor or health care provider immediately if you’ve symptoms of bleeding in the stomach or intestines. It may include bloody, black or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit which looks like coffee grounds.
