burning man 2018

Burning Man Event is an annual week-long event that is celebrated in Western United States at Black Rock City.

Black Rock City is a temporary city in Black Rock Desert of northwest Nevada, which is approximately 100 miles north-northeast of Reno.

Burning Man Definition and Its History :

Burning Man began in 1986 as a bonfire ritual on the summer solstice when Larry Harvey, Jerry James and a few friends met on Baker Beach in San Francisco and set fire to an eight foot tall wooden man as well as a smaller wooden dog.

Harvey has described his inspiration for burning these effigies as a spontaneous act of “radical self-expression”

In 1987, the sculpture grew to 15 feet tall, and by 1988, it had grown to 30 feet.

By 1988, Larry Harvey formally named the summer solstice ritual “Burning Man”.

The name “Burning Man” comes from the symbolic ritual burning of a large wooden sculpture that usually takes place on the Saturday evening of the festival.

The people who attend Burning Man are called “Burners”.

Burning Man closed with the burning of the Temple Galaxia, a 65-foot wooden structure, which symbolizes how the fabric of the universe connects all living beings.

Temple Galaxia :

Temple Galaxia was designed by the architect Arthur Mamou-Mani.

It was built in two locations-> Reno, NV and Oakland, CA.

Galaxia was shaped by 20 timber trusses converging as a spiral towards one point in the sky.

The triangular trusses formed different paths towards a central space holding a giant 3D printed mandala at the center.

The timber modules start large enough to hold small alcoves in which people could interact with the structure in peace.

As participants walked through the path, the timber modules lifted up and became thinner towards the sky as they reached the central mandala.

For the burning of the temple, people created memorials for deceased loved ones and past relationships, according to the Reno Gazette Journal.

Burning Man Tickets, Facts and Statistics :

The nine-day gathering of 70,000 people includes wild costumes, art installations, spontaneous musical performances, and lots of partying.

Burning Man is organized by a non-profit organization, called Burning Man Project.

The Burning Man Project endorses several smaller regional events, inspired by the Burning Man principles both in the United States and internationally.

Burning Man does not book any entertainment for the event, but instead encourages participants to perform for the community free of charge.

🔥 People wander around the camps on foot, bicycles, and scooters, cook together, dance, drink, make art, and generally just party, according to insider reporter Aly Weisman, who attended the event in 2013 and 2016.

Burning Man 2018 tickets were ranged from $425 to $1,200.

Burning Man 2019 will place August 25 – September 2, 2018 in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.

So participants are expected to bring their food, water, sunscreen, shelter, supplies and anything else they might need and then pack it out with them afterward.

Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook reportedly dropped in to Black Rock City by helicopter for just one day to serve grilled cheese sandwiches to participants, and Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin went disguised in full spandex body suits.
